Research and Development

The Educational and Research Programme of MUAF in Brno, which in the 1990s largely reflected the world appeal for the concept of steadily sustainable agriculture together with many other notions, including the preparation for joining the EU, has adopted several new ideas for its research orientation, such as preparation for praticipation in the 5th and 6th EU FPs and in professional meetings regarding the concept of the research policy of the Czech Republic. What shapes the research policies of the individual faculties (Faculty of Agronomy, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Faculty of Business and Economics and Faculty of Horticulture) at the break of the 21st century are the concept of steadily sustainable agriculture, the production of renewable sources and controlled management of biological processes. The university is also fully aware of the increasing competition at the world agricultural market, of the new criteria for quality guarantee and food safety, and of the fact that agriculture is gradually losing its prominent position to the expanding market force of the follow-up links in the food chains of the agrobusiness. Under such circumstances, the university expands on its conceptual plans and adopts new topics, such as increasing the food safety, enhancing the food quality monitoring, developing the accurate agriculture system with alternate emphasis on the production and non-production functions, planning the landscape spatial structure, its revitalization and multifunctional use, forestry and agricultural contribution to the consolidation of the countryside, increasing the competitive ability of the agricultural sector, assessment of the environmental contributions to agriculture, multicriterial assessment of the agrarian policy influence on the steadily sustainable development, etc.

The university views the new dimension of agriculture and forestry in their economic, social, ecological and technological contexts as an urge to study the system and to participate in its effective structuring.
